The Bands at Holy Spirit are Shining Brightly!
This Friday October 14th, our 7th and 8th grade band members will once again be participating in Xavier High School's Band Night. Our Students will be joining the Bands of Xavier High School and St. Joseph Middle School in the half time performance at the Hawk's football game. Watch for our Students if you are attending the game and cheer them on!
For those students participating, please remember that we will be leaving Holy Spirit at 3:00 on Friday. Permission slips must be turned in prior to leaving. The Football Game begins at 7:00 and students will be dismissed to their parents immediately following half time.
On Wednesday, Novemer 9th, the students of Holy Spirit will be presenting a Veteran's Day Program after our school liturgy at 9:30 in Fuller Hall. Parents are welcome to attend, as our Band and Choir students will perform patriotic music in honor of the Veterans in attendance.
Looking Ahead...
It is almost time to place our annual order for Band Shirts. This year, we will be doing things a little differently, in that we will be ordering New Varsity Band Shirts. The shirts will be black with red print and will feature a design chosen by our students. Spirit Band students will continue to use the Red Polos that we have used in the past, so we will be working on a system to "trade in" the old shirts when moving into Varsity Band. More details will be available soon!

Welcome Back!
I hope that everyone had a fun and relaxing summer vacation and I am very excited to begin a new school year with the bands at Holy Spirit School. Here are just a few items to consider as we get rolling in 2011:
Remember: We are going to be STARS for God this year. Together, we will Serve God through our music; focus on Teamwork as an ensemble; and Respect one another always.
- Band Lessons will begin on Tuesday, September 6th. Your lesson times will be available before you leave school this Friday. Please check with Mrs. Barnhill if there is a concern about your scheduled time.
- How is your Instrument working? If you took some time off from playing over the summer, please check your instrument before the first day of band. Change your reed, oil your valves and take care of any issues before they become too serious.
- Please try to Practice before your first Band Lesson. We will be able to use our time together much better if you have a few items prepared from your lesson book.

Spring is Here!
Our Spring concert will be held on May 12 at 6:00 in the evening. All Band Students are expected to arrive at school no later than 5:30 for the evening performance. Spirit Band members should report to the Band Room and Varsity Band members should report to Mr. Zuleger's room with instruments and music. There will be a dress rehearsal, which will be open to the public, at 1:30 that afternoon.
Summer Band Registration will begin after our Spring Concert. Summer lessons are not required, but are a great way to keep playing and building your skills throughout the summer months.
Third Grade Band instrument trials will take place after our Spring Concert. Mrs. Barnhill will visit third graders during music class to allow them a chance to try several different instruments. Recommendations will be sent home to assist in the instrument selection process.
The Holy Spirit Bands are hoping to again participate in the ChickenFest parade. The parade is on June 25th and our participation will be determined by student interest and our ability to secure a truck and trailer. Stay tuned for more information on this event in the Knight News.
